Scientific research and design-and-development works

Today the Design Office of JSC NPO Nauka - preserving the traditions established at its foundation – is the modern design office ready to solve urgent problems of designing of life support systems for aircraft.

In recent years, to optimize the development process and increase the level of engineering, the Design Office was restructured. A single designing chain of aircraft life support system was organized that excludes the duplication of functions and provides optimal exchange rate of project information between developers.

Focusing on the world’s best achievements and high technologies, the works are held on the improvement of:
  • quality;
  • consumer performance;
  • aftersales service for components and systems developed by the Design Office.

The main activities of the Design Office of NPO Nauka are the functional design of air conditioning systems (ACS) and automatic pressure control systems (APCS) including control tools, and the test performance. Integrated application of information technology renders possibility to reduce development time for programs and projects.

During the development the following tasks are solved:
  • System imaging and development of the requirements for aggregates
  • Model engineering and integration of designed systems
  • Research and experimental works
  • Performance of all necessary functional calculations in the software environment of C++

  • Development of soft hardware for modeling of functional processes in the test benches using specialized software Matlab & Simulink
  • Creation of specialized test benches with the necessary information support

In order to upgrade the existing systems there were developed:
  • Digital controls and regulators for ACS and APCS
  • Outflow valves with digital control

The Design Office of NPO Nauka holds the developments using advanced design technology.

At the stage of initial design for the integration of ACS in the aircraft system aggregates’ 3D models are being developed; 3D design is done using CAD/CAM/CAE/UG NX6. With the use of specialized software the calculations of the containment heat balance and functional calculations of system parameters in moist air along the ACS channel are being performed.
